BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 29th October 2021) — Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition and SKNLP Political Leader Dr. Denzil Douglas, appearing on ‘The Narrative’ show on WPG10 Grenada on Saturday 23rd October 2021, is putting focus on calling on voters to let the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party lead government after the next general elections. He disclosed his intention to step aside from the party leadership: “The party is getting ready to go into its annual National Conference in November, dubbed an electoral conference because we are hoping to elect new leadership. I have declined in advance of the balloting that takes place in November, so in the preparations we’re having, I would hope not to be on the ballot.” Three names are in contention for SKNLP leadership: Parliamentary Representative for Constituency One Dr. Geoffrey Hanley, caretaker for Constituency Eight and Party Chairman Dr. Terrance Drew, and caretaker for Constituency Three Konris Maynard. Dr. Douglas will remain the Leader of the Parliamentary Opposition and MP for Constituency Six.

“We need to make sure that if we’re going to win the next election, given what appears to be disunity in the Unity coalition, Labour must have its act well put together. We are making leadership change at a critical time not only in the history of the party but also at a critical time in the cycle of elections for St. Kitts and Nevis,” Dr. Douglas said. He urged: “The bickering between our various supporters over which of the leaders would eventually emerge as the national political leader must come to an end. We must show complete unity, togetherness, oneness among all of our comrades.” He also said: “I must make it clear that I am not in any bad blood with any of my colleagues at the upper or lower level. We are in this together and we intend to ensure that we work fervently in togetherness so that we can replace this government which has failed the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.” The SKNLP conference is slated for Sunday 28th November 2021.
