In last week’s editorial, the importance of coming together as a society to tackle the pressing issue of crime and violence was touched on. Hope was expressed that this collective effort would be the focus of the thenupcoming consultation on crime and violence, which was to include key stakeholders such as political organizations, church, the chamber of commerce, and others.
It has been emphasized in past editorial pieces also that when crime becomes a political football, it leads to division among our people, resulting in a blame game that distracts from finding real solutions. Unfortunately, this very scenario seems to have unfolded following the recently held consultation on crime.
A hot topic this week is the apparent political football being played, with the government now responding to the People’s Labour Party (PLP)- headed by immediate past Prime Minister Dr. Timothy Harris on claims that the party was not invited to the consultation held on Friday 23rd August 2024.
