Medical Doctor Encourages Safe Partying

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 26th June 2024)- Medical doctor Dr. Natalie Osborne is urging festival-goers to prioritize safety, particularly when it comes to alcohol consumption and driving. During an episode of ‘SKN Today’ aired live on Tuesday 25th June 2024 on Freedom FM, Dr.

Osborne shared important advice on how to enjoy the festival responsibly. Dr. Osborne emphasized the importance of having a designated driver if drinking: “If you have somebody who’s going to be the designated driver, somebody who’s going to collect you after these shows, so we do not have these [accidents].

And I’m actually on call this week; I have to protect myself.” Host Sharon Rattan, a well-known educator, highlighted the severe consequences of drunk driving, noting that such accidents can be fatal and lead to significant physical impairments, such as paralysis and severe head trauma. “We want to make sure that we avoid that,” Rattan said.

“Ultimately, all of our discussions here are going to be to encourage and inform our public so that we make better decisions.” In light of the festive ocassion, Rattan stressed the need for responsible drinking, especially during this high-energy week. Dr.

Osborne provided further guidance on alcohol consumption: “Some persons recommend, standard, initially that you have one glass for a female and two glasses per man, per day. .. that was a past guidance suggests that it may not be having any adverse effects and actually have some benefits. But we know now that no amount of alcohol is essentially safe…
