BASSETERRE (Friday 16th October 2020) — Officials say the Frigate Bay beach will be wider and longer after a $4 million beach enhancement project is completed in mid-January 2021. The three-step project involves an offshore breakwater to attenuate wave energy, onshore groynes to anchor the beach nourishment, and a dredging and pumping process to widen the beach. The project is handled by two local contractors: Rock and Dirt Construction Ltd. for land side work and St. Kitts Marine Works for marine-based work. “Once we’re finished, you can basically swim at the central and southern portions because the beach nourishment process would basically cover the reef that makes it difficult for beach goers to enjoy the beach,” said engineer Gregoire Williams of Trans-Global Engineering Ltd.
