Within fairly recent times, utterances have been made to the effect that things are great in the country and all major GDP indicators are moving in the right direction. How can things be good when the treasury has been looted, social security is being drained, tourism is in decline, commerce is tut-tutting along, and manufacturing has ‘gone south’? How can things be good when so many are out of work, when businesses are barely limping along, when long-serving employees cannot get even a red cent of severance pay? Will someone kindly explain how it is that things can be good when our country is once again under a heavy and very dark cloud because of the horrendous corruption being practiced in both the public and private sectors?
