When Dr. Drew said that many persons had voted for Team Unity out of curiosity, as funny as it sounds, it is so true.
And now that most of them have satisfied their curiosity, most of them are disappointed. Very, very disappointed.
There is nothing that Team Unity has done to make the country proud.
All people have witnessed is how corrupt a whole government can be and because from captain to cook is involved in all sorts of “bobol”, not one of them is able to point a finger of reprimand at the other.
We are in a sad place at this time. A very bad place.
And the supporters know that Team Unity is taking the country in the wrong direction but they are too embarrassed to say so.
Instead, they ask “how the country running?” hoping by some miracle to hear the lie that things could have never been better.
Instead, things could never have been worse.
When I hear that it is alleged that Hon. Shawn Richards is in Taiwan to secure five hundred laptops to distribute them to our nation’s children, I know that we are in trouble.
When Labour left office, they left a laptop programme in place. It was crucified by the Team Unity government who had nothing but fault to find with it. After they have killed it, they are now running around like headless chickens, all the way to Taiwan, to try to resurrect it.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Sounds like what they did to the Citizenship by Investment Programme, doesn’t it?
Kill off the Citizenship by Investment Programme. Then try to resurrect it.
When Labour left office, our programme was the best in the world. After the Team Unity government killed it, they are now selling it out at half price in a desperate effort to resurrect it.
Sounds like what they did to the Basseterre High School, doesn’t it? Crucify every institution that dared to say that based on scientific evidence, there is nothing that soap and water cannot solve. Now they are running around with no viable place to build the modern state of the art Basseterre High School and want to build it on the Basseterre water table.
That is the modus operandi of Team Unity. Criticism was their strategy. Now it is time for action, criticism, as a strategy, cannot work.
And the problem is that those in the electorate who voted for Team Unity, rally thought that they had a plan.
The only plan that they had worked on was the betrayal of Douglas and the Labour Party as the only means of getting into office. But those who orchestrated the betrayal did not sell it as such. They wrapped the betrayal in gift wrap paper. It looked irresistible. It looked like a paradigm shift.
Poor Timothy, they were told. “He has so many ideas. He is so bright. He is so able. But Douglas is deliberately depriving this young man whose time has come the opportunity to take the federation to heights never dreamed of”.
It succeeded in getting enough people’s attention and the curious was willing to give this gift-wrapped package a try.
But curiosity killed the cat. A well-known saying. In this case, the cat is the federation and Team Unity is killing it fast.
Everybody is bawling. We are yet to see the ideas. The brilliance. The ability.
All we are seeing is corruption and scandal. Every minister seems to be involved in some get rich quick contract with the government.
This is PAM in government revisited.
Every one of them seems to own a heavy equipment company. On both islands of the federation. That is why at least one owner of a heavy equipment company had to take to the streets in protest that the ministers’ companies were getting all the work.
And every day one of them is on a plane going somewhere. And apart from some new clothes, nobody can see
what they are bringing back.
No projects. No investments. Nothing.
And when they were supposed to travel to make a big speech to investors with connections and deep pockets, they cancelled the trip at the last minute and chose instead to travel to Canada to get a facial, a pedicure and a manicure, it is alleged.
We had a good government. Not perfect. But a government that was working. That was earning its keep.
When Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas went away, he did not come back with empty hands. He brought back the Marriott. Park Hyatt. Just to name a few.
These two investments employ thousands of our citizens.
All Team Unity ministers bring back is scandal, corruption, embarrassment and ridicule.
I believe by now that Team Unity has found a way for us to pay for their personal shopping sprees from their myriad travels overseas.
If the good gentleman wanted the government to pay for his mother’s hospital expenses, what else are we not paying for now?
But we need not despair.
We can correct the mistake.
We have seen both governments in action. We have seen how both governments treat their citizens. We have seen who are the real dictators. Even Dwyer is complaining.
We have an easy decision to make. Some of us were curious. Some of us were willing to experiment.
But just look at how all those who helped to make Team Unity possible have been treated. Look at how all of them had to flee Team Unity.
We need to get our country back. We need to get rid of Team Unity.
