BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday 24th October 2024)- General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union (SKNT&LU), Precious Mills, is calling on all union members, workers in general, employers, and like-minded stakeholders to attend the Union’s 85th Annual Conference, scheduled for Sunday 27th October 2024, starting at 10:00AM.

The highly-anticipated event will take place at the SWMC Conference Room and will center on the theme, ‘Empowering Workers: Strategies For Success in 2025 and Beyond’.

According to Mills, the upcoming conference provides a unique platform for members and stakeholders to contribute ideas and shape the future of the Union.

“Our office and our executive committee members frequently receive feedback and recommendations from workers and other partners. This conference presents the perfect opportunity for everyone to come and share their ideas in person,” she said

“The theme itself lends to lively and in-depth discussions, and we want all workers, employers, and stakeholders to be a part of that conversation,” Mills added.

The event will follow its traditional two-fold format, beginning with a public session in the morning, followed by a business session after the lunch break.

Union members and employers are encouraged to attend and actively participate in the discussions. The business session (for unionised members only) is particularly crucial, offering the opportunity for more focused dialogue on the Union’s direction and the broader labour movement.

This year’s guest speaker will be Peter Jenkins, a renowned educator and businessman, recognized as the founder of the annual CFBC-Jenkins Leadership Course.

Additionally, Dr. Sharon Osborne, a well-known medical practitioner, will deliver a presentation on health and wellness. To further engage the next generation, Kevion Hodge Huggins, the Union Executive Committee’s youngest member, will deliver a Youth Call to Action.

Meanwhile, Field Officer Sean Kelly also expressed his enthusiasm for the event, urging full participation: “The place to be this Sunday is at the SWMC Conference Room. We will be having an [exciting] conference.”
