BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 14th May 2026) — National Secretary and CEO of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), Meshach Alford, says the party remains “very very strong” because of its democratic structures, governance systems, legacy and ability to remain united even during challenging periods. Alford made the remarks on Freedom FM on Wednesday 13th May 2026 while discussing the party’s 94th Annual Conference scheduled for Sunday 17th May at the party’s new headquarters at Manhattan Gardens in Lime Kiln, Basseterre, under the theme ‘Labour Is Strong — United in Purpose and Committed to Progress.’ Hosting the conference at the party’s newly-established headquarters carries deep significance: “It’s another time when we can really bring in our people to sit at our home, and it’s very important to us to make it known that that is our home.”

On party strength: “When you get in and you recognize how many structures we do have, the governance processes and what the democracy is like — well and alive, we can say that the Labour Party is very very strong. We have been through some tumultuous times… people think we would have fractured and break at the seams but we were still able to manage it and kept it together. People were able to really see democracy at work in the party — that anybody no matter where you come from, you could be the son of a cane cutter and can become a leader of the Labour Party through its systems and processes.” He said the party’s strength is rooted in “its structure, governance systems, its constitution, its people and the legacy that is behind us.” Guest speaker at the conference is Minister Lisa Jawahir of the St. Lucia Labour Party.
