Dear reader, at some point in our lives, change must come. Since nothing lasts forever, we have to continue striving for that eventful day when our oppression will cease. One only has to look at the present situation in St. Kitts and Nevis to come to grips with the topic of this article, for there are many lessons to be gleaned from the victory at the polls by the S.K.N. Labour Party. One can easily detect the Impregnable Inner Fortress strength of its Leader, Dr. Terrance Michael Drew, who represented Constituency Eight and was twice defeated — the second time mysteriously — but still persisted in contesting the seat until he won it handsomely the third time in 2022. “If at first you do not succeed, try, try, try again,” comes forcibly to mind!
Still another lesson learned is that none of us are gifted to foresee what tomorrow holds in store for us, so we should be civil, respectful and courteous to one another today, so that if circumstances change tomorrow, we would still be standing in good stead. Look at Dr. Drew and Dr. Timothy Harris. When Dr. Drew donated free COVID-19 testing kits which were spreading like wildfire across the globe, look at how he was humiliatingly disgraced by Dr. Timothy Harris who was then the Leader of the Federation and drunk with power. Two years later in 2022, Dr Drew became the Leader of the Federation — and was afforded a chance to humiliate Dr. Timothy Harris. But instead he SOARED like the eagle he is, offering Dr. Harris transportation if he needed it, and providing security for him. Dr. Timothy Harris could not foresee tomorrow, or else he would have treated Dr. Drew civilly yesterday.
His sister who worked as the Registrar of the High Court and was on suspension under the Labour Administration was re-instated. A sister who studied Law was installed as Magistrate without any advertisement for the job, and the Bar Association sang “Silent Night.” Yet another sister was installed as Payroll Officer for Civil Servants. A family member became CEO of National Bank. St. Kitts and Nevis was suddenly transformed into an inglorious Harris Dynasty. What is so amazing about this sudden transformation is that Brothers Mark Brantley and Shawn Richards were so eternally grateful to Dr. Timothy Sylvester Harris for rescuing them out of the 20-year political wilderness that they turned a blind eye to all these happenings, never once even clearing their throats as a mark of disapproval. Look at where they are now!
