All parties who are contesting the upcoming elections can’t take their eyes off The Evil One. Considering what he did to Dr Douglas and the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party, Sam, PAM and CCM, nothing can be taken for granted. The Evil One is the master of transactional politics and that is why Shawn and Mark are so disappointed and disappointing. They were out-transacted and out-manoeuvred every step of the way. They had given up so much for so little. Shawn must have thought that getting the Public Works Ministry was well worth betraying his colleagues. Let’s see if the motion will be withdrawn if threats of a commission of inquiry become real. Transactional politics again.
Now that PAM and CCM have finally admitted that it was a serpent in their midst all the time masquerading as a fish, they are trying their best to end the nightmare. The problem is they are trying to do it without any effort. They don’t seem prepared to give up even a day’s pay. They want a seamless transition from one leader to the next. But if they really expected to happen what legally couldn’t happen, I am scared. I read their press release that they were convinced they had a strong argument. I am not a lawyer. Even Lawyer Mark said it didn’t work when they tried it with Dr Douglas so I don’t know why Lawyer Mark thought it would work with the Evil One.
The Unity experiment has failed. From its very inception it was created for the wrong reasons. And even when those involved recognised that it was a farce, the politicians preferred to put self above country and not put people first. The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party is no experiment. It is not by accident that all major developments and investments in the country took place when our party was in power. Let us return our party to Church Street. For the good of our country. For the good of the people. For the good that we can do.
