For $44,000,000.00, we should be able to buy absolute peace. Even at $31,000,000.00, absolute peace should have been reigning. So any increase should result in the absence of war. I will never say that the shooting incidents have not decreased and I don’t expect any system to be perfect. But when someone on the PEACE is gunned down in a hail of bullets, I have to lament again that there is no real attempt to remove these illegal firearms from our streets and there is no real attempt to plug all the holes through which these illegal weapons arrive into the federation.
That the shootings and murders have decreased is all the evidence we need that the people who are on the PEACE are the same people who were shooting and killing one another. And while I don’t have any issue with giving people a second chance, for $44,000,000.00, we need to be able to get all the illegal firearms and ammunition out of the hands of these second chancers. If, as is being rumoured, those on the PEACE have used the PEACE money to arm themselves with better weapons, then the system is failing these young people.
If the only way at conflict resolution is killing the person with whom there is the disagreement, then the system is failing the young people. If the second chancers are not being taught to bury hatchets and move on with life, then the system is failing the young people. And if they are not being taught that while gold chains and fancy cars have their place, real long-term investments should be strongly encouraged, then the system is failing the young people. Mr Sutton and who sent him must recognize that people who never got into any trouble all of their lives are struggling to make ends meet. It seems to many that the right path is now the wrong path. Especially since army man gun in tings.
