China and Taiwan traded accusations over a violent altercation that broke out between Chinese diplomats and Taiwan government employees at a Taiwan National Day reception in Fiji on 8th October. Both confirmed the incident, with one Taiwanese staffer hospitalised with a head injury. Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry said Chinese diplomats tried to photograph guests and disrupt the event. Taiwan’s Foreign Minister Joseph Wu condemned “the violence against our diplomat in Fiji by China’s uncivilized ‘wolf warriors.’” China disputed Taiwan’s account and criticized the event itself, saying it “violates the one-China principle.”
