BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 9th MARCH 2018)-Yesterday afternoon (Thursday) in observance of International Women’s Day (8th March), the Business and Professional Women (BPW) Club of St.Kitts organised a march throughout the streets of Basseterre.
The top message of the day as communicated via placards and vocal phrases was ‘Stop the Violence against Women’.
PBW President Glenna Evelyn informed local media workers about the objective of putting on the event.
“Today is International Women’s Day and we thought what better platform let our voices be heard in light of the murders that happened last week in terms of the two ladies and we need to really put an end violence against women, against abused victims, against anybody who has been abused; we just need to have that happened so we thought today would be the perfect platform to start that,” she remarked.
Commenting on the type of support message being offered by the group, she replied: That you don’t have to feel embarrassed, you don’t have to feel secluded. We are here. We are here to support anybody who is in any situation that needs assistance, it does not have to be publicised, we can help you in private; we just need to know who we need to help.”
The two women recently whom Evelyn made reference to are sisters 18-year-old Naomi ‘Hopey’ Finch and 21-year-old Jimmyliah ‘Sunshine’ Finch, also from Keys Village.
