Breast Cancer Groups Continue Yearly Public Outreach

Basseterre, St. Kitts: In observance of the globally recognised Breast Cancer Awareness Month, here in St. Kitts-Nevis an entire month of activities are underway involving different charity groups working together which includes the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation.

Under the theme ‘Unmasking Breast Cancer’, the activities began on Sunday 1st October with a Church Service at the Antioch Baptist Church in Basseterre.

The activities continue today ( Friday  6th October) with a Bake Sale on the corner of Princes and Fort Street.

Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation in collaboration with Beckon of Hope Women are slated to hold a health fair and take away luncheon at 17 Degrees on Victoria Road on Saturday 7th October.

During this event, attendees will get a chance to receive free mammograms, free blood pressure and diabetes screening along with pamphlets containing health information.

Champs of Charity Foundation is expected to collaborate with the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation on October 15th to host a charity Gospel Concert at FLOW Grounds featuring Radical Praise, Bridget Lutra and Adrian Cunningham.

Proceeds from this event will go towards assisting the hurricane ravaged island of Dominica.

October 18th is secured for Vibes Turn Pink on the Frigate Bay Strip.

The annual Walk for the cause will be held on October 21st. The walk commences at the Caribbean Cinema and climaxes at the Frigate Bay lawn.

The activities climaxes on 28th October with a Fun Day.

There will also be educational and informative visits throughout St. Kitts and an Ask the Doctor Programme aired live on radio.

In an exclusive interview with Founder of the Essence of Hope Breast Cancer Foundation, Pamella Armstrong Henderson, she revealed that proceeds from the events will go towards free mammograms and treatment of diagnosed women.

The Founder made a clarion call to women over 40 to get checked.

“If you are over 40, the first gift to yourself is getting a mammogram,” she said, noting that prevention is better than cure.
