The Labour Spokesman Editorial
On Saturday 1 January 2022, Dr. Terrance Drew gave his first New Year’s Day address to the nation in his capacity as National Leader of The St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP), outlining his proposals for putting the country back on the road to progress for all people. He has outlined working in pursuit of the people’s mandate which embodies ‘powering for purpose to fulfil the people’s mandate.’
Many are of the view that such achievement of that goal will call for utilisation of his leadership vision, one which he explained is expansive and inclusive. He points to recognizing that this will call for leadership by example, and has openly pledged to provide such service to the party and country. Dr. Drew further explained that he has every confidence that such is achievable, especially as the party can and will provide a government of high ideals, opting for the hard choices, no matter how difficult they may be.
His recent actions and public conduct highlight that feature according to talks in the public. Dr. Drew this week took to a protest outside Government Headquarters in displaying that the rule of law must be respected in demonstration to the ‘powers that be.’ Many people are also of the view that his leadership style will be people-centric and community-focused. Dr. Drew also pointed out that there are no old or new Labour values, just ‘Labour values,’ and that the SKNLP governs for all and not just the few. Many people, from different political divides, have commended Dr. Drew for getting off to a fine start. Readers, feel free to share your opinion.
