Where did this new policy with the cruise ships regarding booking tours come from? It seems strange to me that all of a sudden the cruise ships are telling their passengers that unless they book a tour on the ship, they cannot disembark. Is it because the cruise ships are not operating at maximum passenger capacity so they need these tours to make the trips worth their while? Should we expect things to go back to pre-COVID-19 days when more passengers are allowed to travel on the cruise ships? How is it that the Tourism authorities gave the impression that they had resolved all the issues with the independent taxi drivers and operators?
It’s really sad to hear the cries of the taxi and tour personnel every time a cruise ship docks because the country depends on the tourist dollar. Whether we like it or not, the cruise ship is our sugar cane field. When the ordinary taxi driver or tour operator can’t make a US dollar, the small and medium businesses suffer and the domino effect continues so the country suffers as well.
I heard of two shootings this week. I searched social media looking for some corroboration and couldn’t find even a mention. Basically what has been happening is that any bad news, especially having to do with gun violence, is only released if the authorities have absolutely no other choice. Hiding the fact of the gun violence won’t mean that it did not happen. It just means that the $31,000,000.00 plaster is just a plaster. It won’t cure the sore foot.
The only place and time party-style dancing is being allowed is at the $40.00 J’Ouvert and any other government-sanctioned event. With all the restrictions placed on party-style dancing in public, when the revellers finish wukking up in the J’Ouvert, the movie must win an Oscar. It seems as if unless the entire population is 100% fully vaccinated and boostered and there is not a single active case, NEOC is not allowing a promoter to have a worthwhile function. That is why we need forward-thinking people like the Labour Party’s very own Dr. Terrance Drew at the helm. People who know and understand the science that is available and will not shut down life and people’s livelihoods just because they can.
