Day before yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 23 June, viewers and listeners tuned in to ZIZ Radio and Television, and other stations, to be updated by the governmental authorities concerning the COVID-19 pandemic and related state of affairs here in our beloved little nation of St Kitts and Nevis. Our people usually do so with the expectation that the proceedings will prove enlightening, and provide objective and informative professional guidance that will assist us in dealing with the day to day challenges of the covid virus, one of the deadliest threats to our health and general wellbeing in generations.
Rather unfortunately, Wednesday afternoon’s session turned out to be a shocker. It has been reported that many persons tuned out from the programme, filled with disbelief and disgust, and unable to cope with what they were seeing and hearing. For those who continued viewing and listening, the matter took on the ugly characteristics of a distasteful, partisan, political cussing session, the type for which SCHEME UNITY is notorious.
One particularly disturbing occurrence was an attempt to ‘lecture’ those who criticise them, by invoking Rotary’s Four Way Test. The first test asks the question “Is it the truth?” Was it the truth when they spent years going about the country spewing all manner of made-up propaganda against our beloved Comrade Leader, Labour and The NRP, just so that they could turn the people against us and ease themselves into power? Second is the question “Is it fair to all concerned?” Was it fair to the people of St Kitts and Nevis when the SCHEME UNITY lot were pretending to have the people’s interests at heart, but in fact were only seeking to position themselves to facilitate their lust for money and power? Was it fair when, in the run-up to the general elections of June 2020, their agents went into foreign countries and recruited persons to enter into hastily arranged marriages of convenience, so that, overnight, they could be granted citizenship and entered on the register of voters? The third test is “Will it build goodwill and better friendship?” At the local, national and regional levels that clearly has not been the case. Rotary’s fourth test asks “Will it be beneficial to all concerned?” The answer has to be a resounding NO. SCHEME UNITY owes Rotary International an apology for what was attempted on Wednesday afternoon. They can’t handle the truth!
