Editorial
Rather suddenly it seems that the COVID-19 situation here in St. Kitts and Nevis has become a matter of truly grave concern. The number of affected persons has taken a steep upward trajectory. Just as suddenly, all the talk about reliability, good governance, great leadership, and promises kept have been fully exposed for the emptiness they have always been.
The business of equipping and motivating people to stimulate lawlessness did serve to destabilise the place and helped some to get their corrupt hands on the reins of political power. The sharp reduction in the output of manufactured goods had the inevitable effect of a marked reduction in exports — and our economy had gone into reverse even before COVID. The pandemic did not start those declines, but has made an already bad situation infinitely worse.
In the face of the difficulties and dangers posed by COVID-19, our people have been confronted with the bullying antics of the naked emperor. As we look at what is transpiring in America to encourage vaccination through inducements, one is forced to accept the reality that, in stark contrast, the emperor has no real leadership skills — in a real sense he is a school-yard bully, and nothing more. Dear people of St. Kitts and Nevis, we have been seriously betrayed. SCHEME UNITY cannot be trusted.
