BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 16th April 2021) — “Even up to his final moments, his thoughts and concerns were not of himself but that of his children and their well-being.” Such was part of the remembrance of 38-year-old Keon Fyfield of Newtown, delivered at his funeral at the Wesley Methodist Church on Seaton Street in Basseterre on Thursday 8th April 2021.
A Dear Daddy message in the funeral booklet read: “You were a big part of our lives. Maybe God was ready for you to go, but not us.” His eulogy described the role of father as bringing “the most joy and happiness to his life,” noting that he “had a special relationship with all his children, not showing any favouritism for either one, but continually expressing his love to them in a manner which best suits their needs and personality.”
“Keon was not much for words but his actions and that smile that can light up a room spoke a thousand words and left you feeling the abundance of love that he had for his family and close friends,” the eulogy continued. Fyfield had been warded at the JNF General Hospital from 7 March 2021 — the date of the incident that caused his injuries — until his death on 25 March. An autopsy by Resident Pathologist Dr. Adrian Nunez concluded that death was the result of pulmonary embolism due to prolonged bed rest as a consequence of severe head trauma with cerebral concussion.
A police press release dated 14th April — six days after Fyfield’s burial — announced that two brothers from the Stapleton community have been charged with his murder: 22-year-old Dijon Trotman, charged on 12 April, and 21-year-old Divon Trotman, charged on 13 April. Both are in police custody.
