The invasion of the United States Congress on Wednesday 6 January 2021 has left most persons worldwide in a state of shock and bewilderment. What that sordid affair has done, amongst many other things, is to rip away the facade concealing the true nature of so many aspects of matters American — exposing the ‘Myth and Pathology of American Exceptionalism,’ as Professor Ronald Pruessen of the University of Toronto describes it. Ongoing FBI investigations have already turned up proof that the whole affair was planned, orchestrated, and incited by persons at the highest levels. Even reports implicating the wife of a sitting Justice of The Supreme Court have emerged. We, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis, can learn much from America’s recent experiences, for we have similar problems right here at home. Let us study the whole matter carefully, then develop plans and programmes to take our country back from the right-wing minority.
