BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (January 2018)-Karisia Willet who goes by the stage name Miss Independent made history by becoming the first ever female to walk away with the coveted title of Senior Calypso Monarch following the competition held on Friday 29th December 2017 at the Sugar Mill at the Warner Park Cricket Stadium.

Willet did battle with some of the Federation’s top veterans in the calypso arena including the likes of King Ayatollah and King Sacrotes, however at the end of the keenly contested competition it was the new comer (Miss Independent) who received the judges’ nod after trouncing her rivals and earning a total of 766 points.

Her historic win was sealed and delivered after she performed her tunes “Where de leadership” and “It taste de same”.

Miss Independent is no stranger to the “history books” as in 2008 she made history when she was crowned the first ever female Junior Calypso Monarch.

Big Lice secured the second spot with a total of 742 points. Her performed “Let the Calypsonian Sing” and the ever popular “We did not vote for that”.

2016 Calypso Monarch, King Craig came in third after rendering “Sleep On” and “Stand Up” which earned him a total of 733 points.

Calypso veteran, King Ayatollah came in fourth with 730 points.

He performed “Bouncing Back” and ”Mothers’ Crying”.

The other participants were Jack Spanner, Zarkie, Queen Jackie and Big Edwards.
