The truth of the matter is that under the previous administration, the challenges demolished people’s confidence in the delivery of health care services, and sadly such has been the topic on social media, radio airwaves and word on the street.
And of course, that subject about the stem cell scandal and the firing of the Chief Medical Officer who tried to speak out did not help either. It is a good thing, and some would even call it a blessing that Prime Minister Dr.
Terrance Drew, who is the Minister of Health is a trained medical doctor and a specialist in internal medicine at that, leading the charge in handling the affairs of the country as he currently works towards improving the quality of health care services at the Joseph N. France General Hospital and building confidence in the healthcare sector overall.
Persons can now breathe a sigh of relief in the comfort of knowing that the delivery of proper health care is a priority for the new administration. Speaking of breathing, the government is seeking to bring in a lung doctor called a pulmonologist.
Increased number of doctors, looking after the wellbeing of nurses, best of the best medical equipment, more and new specialists as well as improvements at the Pogson Hospital in Sandy Point are just some of the areas which point to what has been happening and will be happening. Many individuals over the years have given testimonies and shared stories about the challenges of the healthcare system.
Even having to visit the ‘Monkey Farm’ to use an MRI machine that monkeys use has not been sitting well with our citizens and residents, but it was what has been available and so individuals just had to make do. But a light is at the end of the tunnel.
A state-of-the-art MRI has been ordered and will soon be on island at the JNF General Hospital and so making do in an atmosphere shared with primateswill soon be transformed into a healthcare setting for only humans. Proper health care should always be a priority, and no government should be monkeying around with ensuring that the right equipment, resources and policies are in place to give all patients and their loved ones’ confidence knowing that they will be properly cared for with capability and efficiency.
Governmentprovided medical funding being available for the critically-ill babies and young children is another step in the right direction in assisting the families who are unable financially to do so. Talk about peace of mind for those parents and guardians in knowing that money is no object in giving their little ones a chance for the required life-saving surgeries.
It is certainly good news to know that the government of the day is not just putting a bandage on the wound of what the healthcare system has been, but rather is paying keen attention to properly diagnose and treat the situation for sustainable betterment and caring recovery.
