BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Thursday 2nd April 2026) u2013 The Peopleu2019s Action Movement (PAM) Candidate for St. Christopher Two Nubian Greaux has addressed his recent run-in with the law, claiming that the matter was politically motivated.
u201cI understand what is going on u2026they have to try dey best and I have to try me best same way too so for me it was nothing about cannabis or the illegality of it; It was a political moveu2026in understanding the political arena, I know they going try dey dirtiest tricks, so we just have to be prepared for it,u201d Greaux said while speaking on u2018Hot Topicsu2019 aired live on Tuesday 31st March 2026 on FreedomFM.
Greaux also spoke about what he described as u201cthe double standard that exists in this [cannabis] industry,u201d while referencing public statements made by Prime Minister and Minister of National Security Dr. Terrance Drew regarding the pace of reforms surrounding the cannabis sector.
u201cI heard the Prime Minister said about they taking their time because the industry canu2019t be discriminalized fully because they have to set up which is a fair statement. They need to get test equipment because they have to make sure itu2019s safe and thatu2019s also a true statement u2026,u201d Greaux said.
However, he went on to question the governmentu2019s seriousness about putting measures in place to secure the necessary testing equipment for the industry.
Meanwhile, speaking in the National Assembly that day (31st March), Attorney General Garth Wilkin outlined the regulatory framework currently being established for the medicinal cannabis sector.
u201cNo selling of cannabis unless licensed to do so by the Medicinal Cannabis Authority. Now, the Medicinal Cannabis Authority is dealing with medicinal cannabis because research has shown that cannabis can be used for medicinal purposes for different types of ailments,u201d Wilkin stated.
He explained that the Authority is in the process of being established and must ensure that the proper systems are in place before the industry can function. u201cThe Medicinal Cannabis authority is open; it is now setting up. Setting up means it has to ensure that there are doctors that are trained to prescribe medicinal cannabis. Also, one of the key roles of the medicinal cannabis authority is to ensure that the substance cannot cause harm to the person,u201d Wilkin said.
He added that the process involves acquiring the necessary testing equipment and developing regulatory oversight mechanisms.
u201cSo part of the facility and part of the reason why a medicinal cannabis authority takes a while to set up is because they have to have the testing equipment. They have to have the testing equipment. Doctors have to be trained. They then have to have the capability of regulating the places where the prescriptions are granted, where the cannabis is sold, and that is in progress,u201d Wilkin explained.
u201cSo there should be no selling outside of that regime. And naturally, Madame Speaker, if you are buying a product that is regulated, you should be sure that youu2019re getting something that will not cause you harm,u201d he added.
Wilkin further encouraged members of the public to educate themselves on the legislation governing the sector.
u201cWe have frequently asked questions. We have the debate from the National Assembly. We have all of the legislation there. So I encourage all persons to go to the website which is CannabisClaritySKN.com to find out what are the dou2019s and donu2019ts with respect to cannabis,u201d he said.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the Royal St Christopher and Nevis Police Force on Friday 27th March 2026 stated that Greaux had been charged for cannabis-related offences.
According to the release, Greaux of Shadwell Housing, St. Kitts, was charged with the offences of Possession of Cannabis and Cultivation of Cannabis with Intent to Supply. The charges stem from a search warrant executed at his residence by the Anti-Narcotics Unit of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force and the Joint Security Operations Tactical Team (JSOTT) on March 26th, 2026, between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m.
Police reported that the search resulted in the recovery of two hundred and seventy-one (271) growing plants at various stages of maturity, along with several packages containing vegetable material. The plants and the packaged materials were subsequently confirmed to be cannabis.
The scene was processed by the Crime Scene Unit of the police force, and the cannabis along with other items of evidential value were taken into custody. Greaux was also taken into custody and was later formally charged at the Basseterre Police Station.
