The Labour Spokesman Editorial
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) issued a forecast warning that the global economy would experience a contraction of three percent for this year, describing the current crisis as being “unlike anything the world has seen before.” On Tuesday 16th June, the Fund’s chief economist Gita Gopinath stated that the global economy is on track for a more significant contraction than estimated in April.
What does this portend for us, the people of St. Kitts and Nevis? It did not take long after the change of government in February 2015 for our people to realise what a terrible mistake had been made. What we experienced earlier this month was the employment of persons who did not suffer the experience of living under SCHEME UNITY being smuggled into the country and used to undermine the very strong and clear desire of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis to effect a change in government.
Thus, as we set out to face the ongoing and ever worsening situation, the country is doing so under a government which has absolutely NO MORAL AUTHORITY WHATSOEVER to be in charge of our affairs. Tourism is in decline globally. What has become of the very healthy sovereign fund which Labour and The NRP left in The Treasury in 2015? Will we ever know what has really happened to all of that money?
People of St. Kitts and Nevis, we are in for a truly rough time, and far more likely than not, we are going to experience those horrors for a very long time. Our country is just not prepared for what lies ahead, and those at the helm are spectacularly unfit and unsuited to lead us through such times and circumstances. Buckle up, everyone.
