SKN EBOLA TRAVEL ADVISORY — May 27, 2026
As part of ongoing efforts to safeguard public health, the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis is closely monitoring the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak and strengthening preparedness measures to reduce the risk of Ebola entering the Federation. The Ministry of Health advises the public that, based on the latest updates from the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, twelve African countries have been identified as high-risk areas for EVD transmission and/or importation: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, the Central African Republic, Angola, Burundi, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, Zambia and Nigeria. Nationals are strongly advised to carefully reconsider and where possible avoid non-essential travel to the abovementioned countries. Travelers arriving from countries identified as high-risk may be denied entry into the Federation. The Ministry of National Security, in close collaboration with the Ministry of Health and regional and international partners, continues to strengthen border surveillance and enhance national preparedness measures.
SKN UNDER DROUGHT WARNING AMID BELOW-NORMAL RAINFALL FORECAST — May 26, 2026
Basseterre, Saint Kitts (SKNIS) — Senior Meteorological Officer Elmo Burke is urging residents, businesses and water-dependent sectors across Saint Kitts and Nevis to begin implementing water conservation measures as the Federation faces the likelihood of below-normal rainfall over the coming months. A drought warning has been issued for the Federation. “Regional climate conditions, including those affecting Saint Kitts and Nevis, are expected to be influenced by an El Niño phenomenon. This will likely result in warmer temperatures and drier-than-normal conditions as convective activity becomes suppressed at times,” Mr. Burke explained. Residents and businesses are encouraged to exercise water conservation activities, including repairing leaks, avoiding watering lawns, and using buckets rather than hoses for cleaning.
