The Labour Spokesman Editorial
A week ago today there occurred on our beloved land one of the ugliest episodes in the political history of St. Kitts and Nevis. The selling and buying of votes was so blatant that most of our people still cannot believe it.
Will someone please explain why the Development Bank was opened for business on a Bank Holiday, namely Whit Monday 1st June 2020, five days before the general elections! And why the said bank operated all day Thursday 4th June 2020, one day before the elections, and remained opened until after midnight! What was the nature of the business which that institution had to transact at those times?
The most lamentable outcome of the entire exercise is the fact that our people’s monies have been used to keep us all in political and economic bondage. There is nothing about the June 2020 elections which can be called ‘free and fair, and free from fear’. The timing and very circumstances under which they were held speak volumes against any such claims.
As President Barack Obama warned us some time ago, the fight is never over — the struggle is never ended. Let us all, dear comrades, friends, supporters, brothers and sisters, continue to be of stout heart and good courage. THE STRUGGLE CONTINUES!
