ST JOHN’S, Antigua — Cricket West Indies (CWI) announced the 15-man West Indies squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup to be played in Australia from October 16 to November 13. The West Indies are the only team to have won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup twice, in Sri Lanka in 2012 and in India in 2016. Nicholas Pooran leads in his first World Cup as captain, with Rovman Powell as vice-captain. Left-hand opening batter Evin Lewis has been recalled for the first time since the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. Two uncapped players have been selected: right-arm leg-spinner all-rounder Yannic Cariah and left-arm batting all-rounder Raymon Reifer. The West Indies campaign starts on October 17 against Scotland at Bellerive Oval in Hobart, Tasmania. England sealed a 2-1 Test series win over South Africa, with James Anderson taking 27 wickets at an average of 17.66 for England this summer, while Stuart Broad took 29 at 27.17. Head coach Brendon McCullum confirmed both veteran pace bowlers will be selected for England’s 2023 Ashes squad against Australia: “Yeah, they’ll be here. Those guys are phenomenal cricketers. What they’re doing is continuing to build on the legacy they’re going to leave for the next generation.” Anderson leads England’s all-time wicket-takers with 667 while Broad has 566 — 1,233 wickets between them.
