BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Monday 19th March 2018): The Dr. William Connor Primary School trounced their competitors at the 2018 RAM’S Primary School Championships to capture the coveted title for the third year in a row.

After two days of keen competition at the Kim Collins Athletic Stadium on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th March, the Dr. William Connor Primary beat their closes rival by an impressive eleven (11) gold medals.

The Dr. William Connor Primary School led the pack from the beginning of the two day competition and maintained the lead right to the end. They ended the competition with 19 golds, 3 silvers and 12 bronze.

Sandy Point Primary School came in second with 8 golds, 15 silvers and 7 bronze.

Third place went to the Dieppe Bay Primary School. They earned 5 goals, 5 silvers and 3 bronze.

President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA), Val Henry, said, “For all involved, it was hugely successful, with record numbers in attendance over the two days, but especially on the Sunday. The SKNAAA is very pleased with the high levels of competition displayed by the competing schools.”

The SKNAAA President congratulated the Dr. William Connor Primary School for “its impressive victory”.

Again, talking about the successful event, Henry stated, “The SKNAAA also wants to thank the thousands of fans who came out to support the children, and we also express our gratitude to all sponsors, vendors, government, and the hundreds of volunteers that make up the association.”

The SKNAAA is now preparing for this weekend’s TDC Interschool Championships where the Charles E. Mills Secondary School (formerly Sandy Point High) will try to attain a five-peat.

Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Three, Hon. Konris Maynard, speaking to members of the media, applauded the athletes of the Dr. William Connor Primary School for the exceptional performances they displayed at the two- day athletic extravaganza noting that he is extremely proud to have been a part of it.

“We are proud of the youngsters. They did an excellent job…They really put in the work. I’m glad to have been a part of it. We helped to sponsor them so that they could have the best accommodation for the games so instead of sleeping on cots and so on, we contributed for them to be a nice comfortable place with one of the hotels,” he said.

Maynard stressed on the importance of focusing on our youths by capitalising on their skills and various talents and by supporting them in any way possible.

He also commended the teachers, parents and staff for a job well done.

Head Coach and Sports Coordinator at the Dr. William Connor Primary School, Julian Philbert expressed his joy, highlighting that hard work has its rewards and so they were able to three-peat in “grand style”.

Pointing to what makes the school standout, he remarked “…..We’ve put in the work. For about the past seven years or so, we’ve been really working and trying to perfect the art and this is just the results of the hard work we’ve put in”, he said.
