In his remarks, Union President Joseph O’Flaherty applauded the awardees of the two particular sectors spotlighted at the inaugural event.
“This year, as the first such awards luncheon of the Union, our focus is on nurses and the honouring of Union women involved in manufacturing. These are two of the most critical areas in which women make a significant contribution to the health and economic well-being of people in our nation.
O’Flaherty added: And while we take this day to honour just a few women of outstanding qualities, understand that there are hundreds of women in this country making a substantial contribution to nation building. To these women, also, we say thank you and encourage you to continue the good work.
The 2018 theme for International Women’s Day is ‘Press For Progress’.
