Tourism Awareness Month of Activities Underway

Basseterre, St. Kitts – Surrounding the theme, “Enhancing Our Nation’s Prosperity by Nurturing Tourism Sustainability” Tourism Awareness Month has been officially launched here in St. Kitts.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Carlene Henry Morton, on the occasion of the launch revealed that “Throughout this month a variety of activities will highlight the fact that the Tourism Sector is vitally important to our country” noting that, there is a great need for citizens to understand and protect the tourism product.

“Indeed it is important that we strive to protect all that is good about our island. This is why the team at the Ministry of Tourism is committed in providing a consistently outstanding visitor experience through the sustainable development of our human, natural and cultural resources in order to maximize opportunity, prosperity and quality of life for present and future generations,” the Permanent Secretary said.

The exciting month long activities continue today, Friday 10th November with a Karaoke competition at Port Zante Food Court.

This will be followed by the Tourism staff appreciation dinner and Rails and Trails project.

The Ministry of Tourism will host a series of talks in schools throughout St. Kitts, running from November 13th to 17th and an island wide motorcade is scheduled for Saturday 18th November.

On Sunday 19th November, the Poinciana Theatre Productions presents “When Men Talk About Sex” at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Auditorium.

Tourism Product Tours in Primary Schools are organized for 20th to 23rd November.

The launch of a yachting strategic plan is expected to be presented on Thursday 23rd November while a Heritage Health and fitness walk is slated for Saturday 25th November.

The activities are slated to conclude on Wednesday 29th November with a prize giving ceremony for the Best Destination Photo Contest.

Activities that have already taken place include a prize giving ceremony of the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO) Youth Congress, a Church Service and a radio broadcast by the junior Minister of Tourism.
