BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 25th October 2019)-This media house has gathered that the male taxi operator who punched a male tourist after he was allegedly kicked has received a letter of suspension from the St.Kitts Tourism Authority.
It is said, however, that the taxi operator has ignored being notified regarding the situation.
“He was given a letter but he say he aint studying no letter; he still down there working every day. Now that he done get a letter and he continuing to work, what the Authority can do is to tell police to escort him off the premises and take him out of the vehicle,” told one individual.
Asked what is expected of these service providers (taxi operators) in an event that they are attacked by a tourist who is their customer, a source informed this media house that: “You could do something about it but within the best interest of the [tourism] product. It’s better that the matter be disposed of in a way that it won’t have negative effect; it’s better to deal with it in the spirit of wisdom to avoid any negative backlash.”
According to an individual who has weighed in on the topic with a different point of view: “The tourist was very wrong to kick him; nobody know how they would react if something like that happens to them because all of us is humans, and I hear is a kick to his butt at that.”
A 10-second video –captured via cellphone- showed the alleged reaction of the taxi operator to the cruise ship passenger during last week’s (Tuesday 15th October 2019) controversial incident at Port Zante within the vicinity of the taxi stand.
When contacted recently, an official from the St.Kitts Tourism Authority had informed that the incident is currently being investigated and so there is no comment to be given at this time.
