BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Wednesday 3rd October 2018)– This media house has gathered that John Gumbs, the man recently found stabbed to death in a drain on Branch Street in East Basseterre on Monday this week (1st October), was a street sanitation worker stationed in that community.

It is understood that the Pond Road resident was a janitor who was responsible for maintaining that area in which he was found dead which is not far from his home.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that the victim was in a verbal altercation with another male just hours before his demise.

The deceased, who is believed to be in his 50’s, carried the nickname ‘Ras’.

At about 6:25 AM that Monday morning, police received a report of a body being found lying in a drain.

Police say that the body bore signs of multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.

A graphic photo circulated via social media shows that the man was gruesomely murdered with what appears to be internal body parts-apparently intestines- hanging outside his body.

This is the Federation’s 23rd homicide to date for 2018.

Police are making an appeal to anyone who might have any information in relation to this incident to call the Violent Crimes Unit at 467-1887, 467-1888, or 662-3468 or their nearest Police Station.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
