BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (Friday 23rd March 2018): Miguel Flemming, 28, of Old Road, St. Kitts, who is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in the Taiwan- the Republic of China-has written and recently published his first book dubbed ‘Being Black in Asia’.

A copy of Being Black in Asia’

His area of focus is Ornamental Fish and Aquatic Health with a focus on Fish Pathology.
In an exclusive interview with Flemming, he told this media house that the 126 paged book is based on personal experiences.

“Being in Taiwan for almost six (6) years and travelling to other Asian countries and meeting Asians in Taiwan created the experiences that I wrote in the book,” Flemming said.
Topics he touched on in the book include ‘Where did you come from?’ ,‘Stares, Laughter and Losing Face’, ‘Learning in Taiwan as Foreigner’, ‘Teaching English to Asians’, ‘Dating in Asia’, ‘Embracing Everyone’.

Flemming said that his book was written to highlight the importance of understanding different cultures and the importance of teaching persons about who you are and where you came from.

“Not understanding certain cultures, their gestures, actions and words can result in many conflicts and misunderstandings,” writer Miguel highlighted, adding; “Communicating with and understanding each other are most important.”

“I encourage everyone to get a copy of the book and learn about what it is like to be in Asian country,” he said.

He further stated that he is hoping to be an entrepreneur hence the book is a stepping stone in that direction.

“I get my ideas because I am a dreamer and I want to be an entrepreneur. This keeps me thinking of the next thing and how I can make something profitable and help others”, he coined.

Miguel said that he wants the book to stand on its own, however, there are two more unrelated books that he is trying to publish this year.
He revealed that it can take six (6) months to a year to produce a book noting that it all comes down to the availability of the material one is writing about.
“My advice to other writers is not to think too much. Execute because not matter what you do or how much time you spend on a project, there is always going to be room for improvement,” he said.

The book is available on Amazon and Lulu for a price of US$8.99 both kindle and paperback.
