BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 4th January 2019)-Lead vocalist of the Small Axe Band Royston’ Mr. World’ Wigley commented on the Road March repeat victory for Sugar Mas 47 saying: “I feel overwhelmed on behalf of the band, myself and the fans. I want us to get it 60 more times! Big up to God and the fans who made it possible.”
For carnival this time around, road march was judged on one day only which was J’ouvert held on Wednesday 26th December, instead of the traditional two days- in skipping grand parade day (Tuesday 1stJanuary).
Small Axe won the title for the second year in a row for the tune called ‘Get Jiggy Wid It’ scoring 78.43 points.
Wigley pointed out that over a seven year period the band lost the title only once noting that such is “a big achievement.”
At present, the Small Axe Band is preparing to travel overseas including Europe and St. Martin.
According to him: “Small Axe is for life! We are going out there to market St.Kitts and Nevis …Our mission is to be successful. Small Axe Band is a household name, Small Axe Band is regional, Small Axe Band (is) the sweetest band in the world!”
He informed that the ‘Get Jiggy Wid It’ song is a “marketing tool” which calls for fans and music lovers to get involved.
Wigley went on to express the band’s appreciation to have seen how fans and music lovers responded to the tune with much participation on J’ouvert within The Circus area.
Come tomorrow (Saturday), the band is set to have its victory jam along the airport bypass road starting at 6AM.
In regard to the runner-up positions for the Road March competition, Nu Vybes Band International (De Sugar Band) followed closely behind in second place with
77.68 points followed by Grand Masters for third place with 76.27 points, Ryddim Band for fourth spot with 70.69 points and coming in fifth Kollision Band with 66.28 points.
For the small J’ouvert troupes contest, Jab Jab won with 230 points, Fantasy placed second with 223 points while Xplosion and Tek Dat took third and fourth positions with 172 and 155 points, respectively.
Additionally, in the largest J’ouvert troupe category, Red Devils won with 224 points, Xtreme at second position with 216 points while Shiggidy Shack / Small Axe and GM Addix landed the third and fourth places with 209 and 179 points, respectively.
Winner for the Individual Mas Player is Romaine Belgrove.
