Relatives Of Gregory Mills Grateful For Eyewitness

BASSETERRE, St.Kitts– Relatives of 2017 murder victim Gregory Mills are grateful that the key witness participated in the recent court trial despite the outcome.

Doubt created within the minds of jurors going on the testimony of the key eyewitness in the 2017 shooting death of Gregory Mills, resulted in a majority ‘Not Guilty’ verdict, freeing murder accused Omax Bye last Friday afternoon (25th January) at the Basseterre High Court.

, That male witness linked Bye to the deadly shooting after claiming to have recognised him by face having known him for years. However, his credibility was crushed by Bye’s lawyer who cited that he (key witness) came forward after being caught up in a child maintenance matter and ending up in police custody for which the authorities helped to work out a pay advancement to handle that debt situation.

The 12-member jury was divided at 10 ‘Not Guilty’ and 2 ‘Guilty’ in the session presided over by Justice Trevor Warde.

Bye was represented by Marsha Henderson in the trial which begun on Tuesday that week (22nd January) while the prosecution team consisted of Vaughan Henderson and Teshaun Vasquez.

The late well-known owner of Greg’s Pizza- located on the corner of Cayon and College Streets- was gunned down on the eve of his 28th birthday (Tuesday 9th May).

Mills’ shooting death rocked the Federation as an outpour of sentiments described his as hardworking and humble among other admirable qualities by people who knew him personally and business wise.

Police reported on Wednesday 10th May that two persons had been taken into custody assisting with investigations following the deadly shooting which took place at Gillard Meadows in the St. Peter’s community.

The shooting took place shortly before 5 PM that day and investigations revealed that Mills was shot by an assailant(s) while driving in the area.

On Thursday 18th May, on the eve of Mills’ funeral service, Bye of Upper Shaw Avenue, McKnight –who was 31 years old at the time-was taken into police custody and was formally arrested and charged in connection with the shooting death.

Master Class In Cultural Instruments Facilitates The Emergence Of More Folklore Musicians

The Department of Cultural Heritage continues to address issues raised by cultural practitioners, in this instance, filling the need for more traditional cultural music by facilitating a Cultural Instrument Master Class that began November 01, 2025. The Master Class will run for seven weeks at the Dr. William Connor Primary School every Saturday until December 20.  Participants are being taught how to play the kettle drum by Devon Nisbett and Russle Jarvis, the Bass Drum by Alarick Gumbs and the Fife by Wayne Simmonds.
