BASSETERRE, St.Kitts– The Chairman of the Artistes Selection Committee of the St.Kitts Music Festival Committee, Jonel Powell, says there is a carnival-like mood in the lead up to the 21st annual extravaganza, slated to take place next week (Thursday 22nd to Saturday 24th June) at Warner Park in Basseterre.

“The mood as I would describe it is carnival-like; people are really getting into the spirit of Music Festival.”

He made the disclosure during a one on one chit-chat with this media house yesterday (Monday 12th June).

Powell continued highlighting two of the latest pre-activities held over the past weekend.

“We just had a really successful bar crawl on Saturday where we had nothing but fantastic reviews. On Friday, we had the finals of the open mic competition and so as more and more of these fringe events are taking place and are coming off successfully, people are really getting into that Music Festival vibe.”

On Friday 2nd June, a bonus act in the person of well-known US R&B singer and songwriter K. Michelle was announced at the Music Festival edition of the FLOW Fantastic Friday event held at Cheers on Port Zante.

When asked about this unveiling of another artiste around that time period, Powell remarked: “It’s always good to come with a little surprise and there are different factors which would determine when you would drop that surprise and we did it and the response has been really, really good.”

“We think that she has certainly filled a gap and is reaching out to a younger demographic more, R&B demographic. She is somebody on top of the game right now, very popular in TV shows and all that and she just brings that additional vibe cross section of entertainment to the festival,” he added.

“Can’t Raise A Man’, Not A Little Bitter’ and ‘Love Em All’ are some of the popular jams by K. Michelle.
