BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Friday 7th December 2018)-Was well-known local calypsonian Unexpected recently arrested in connection to his Sugar Mas 47 hit song called ‘Who For King’?
As gathered from police, that rumour which has been circulating is not true.
A source at the Police Public Relations Department has brought it to the attention of the local media that police are aware that there has been inaccurate news reporting that The Unexpected was placed behind bars because of his tune.
“It has been brought to my attention that a report is making the rounds that The Unexpected was arrested because of his song. Please note that this is false,” a spokesperson said.
This media house understands that the rumour which came about last week pointed at the expletive sounding lyrics as part of the alleged criticism.
Notably, at the recent opening of Sugar Mas (St.Kitts-Nevis National Carnival), government minister Eugene Hamilton poked fun at Unexpected’s song on behalf of Minister of Culture Shawn Richards who was off island at the time.
“He regrets not being here and assures you that he will be back soon to partake in the festivities. Indeed Minister Richards has indicated to me that I must give you the assurance that when he returns he will provide some highly anticipated answers to the Unexpected calypso questions,” he remarked.
With score of 339 points, Unexpected is among the sixteen (16) calypsonians slated to partake in the semi-finals leg of the Senior Calypso Competition scheduled to take place on….16th December at Carnival Village, going up against Miss Independent-the recently crowned Female Calypso Bacchanal queen.
Following two days of eliminations held on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd December, the semi finalists were selected after a total of 35 performers took to the stage featuring sixteen (16) and nineteen (19) calypsonians on night one and two, respectively.
The other calypsonians who have advanced in the competition are as follows: Queen Kibie- 394 points, Brown Sugar – 391 points, Charis D – 380 points, Genesis – 361points, Lil Miss – 358 points, King Godfrey – 358 points, Singing Jackie – 355 points, De Awesome Navigator – 345 points
Queen Diva – 342 points, Hollywood – 339 points, Singing Sharon – 332 points, Lord Kut – 329 points, Glenroy Blanchette – 321 points, Lord Payne – 319 points and Lady B – 316 points.
