BASSETERRE St.Kitts (Thursday 24th May 2018)- Newly-appointed Chairman of the opposition St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) Dr. Terrance Drew is calling on Dr. Harris to face the media since he is innocent.

Speaking on the Party-sponsored ‘Issues’ Programme aired yesterday afternoon (Wednesday), he expressed the view that Dr. Harris is “treating this issue very lightly.”

Dr. Drew, who criticised the way in which PM Harris has addressed the matter, said he (Harris) needs to “give a formal explanation and response to such a serious charge.”

According to him: “The other thing that he needs to do is to come out before the public and stand before the press. If you are so innocent stand before the press and allow yourself to be questioned. He has to come before the country to be questioned. If he doesn’t do these things, our country will continue to have the dark cloud that is hanging over it presently. Instead of doing that, he took government money and he went down to tabernacle-his home constituency- to hide from the people and stand behind a mike and challenged anyone who questioned him.”

“This cannot be the action of a prime minister who is transparent who has integrity and who believes in good governance. Remember the platform that they ran on good governance, integrity in public life, freedom of information and so forth and we have seen this government practiced none of them,” Dr. Drew added.

He is further of the opinion that PM Harris “must do what the Minister in Antigua did! He must resign!”

The Minister of Investment and Trade of Antigua and Barbuda, Asot Michael, who was mentioned (as the then Minister of Energy) in the bribery scandal resigned last week (15th May)-two days after such allegations surfaced.
