Read below for the one on one chit-chats following the show.

Danielle Riddick

Commenting on how she arrived at the idea to put on the show, she remarked: “Well, I got a lot of customers that actually do hair and they just didn’t have the formal training so I wanted to start with a hair show just kinda get my feet wet but eventually I want to start training young girls to be in the beauty industry. I also do nails. I’m not good with makeup but it’s ok. I love to train young girls to be in the beauty industry because I like teaching.”

She also praised the talent of her fellow featured hair stylists saying: “They are people I knew and I love their work and I love the friendship with them and so I just decided let’s do something; let’s showcase our work. One hand feeds the other and so I just appreciate the help and everything.”

Additionally, when asked how she would rate the event, she talked about the feedback from patrons.

“Well, I didn’t get to see it but everybody was telling me that it was really nice; they enjoyed themselves and so I’m very pleased. I’m pleased with my models, my hair stylists that were on the team and my fashion coordinator Shahirr James. He did coordination of the segments. He was a big help because I knew nothing about that. All I know is hair that’s it. Everybody did a great job!”

And as for making it an annual event, Riddick told: “Yes, we will be doing it next year. I want something that’s annual where we can have competitions, workshops, people who are interested in the beauty industry, have competitions against various hair stylists as well as barbers and nail technicians. So I just want it to get bigger and bigger and grow and grow.”

Vikiesh ‘Keisha’ Weekes

“I’ve been doing hair for a very long time and I love it so much. Sometimes, this business can get very hectic but it is all about the customers I’m dealing with, and so quality customer service is very important to me as an entrepreneur.”

When asked how she came up with some of the styles for the show, she said: “I chose to create a flavour in styling that the audience would love. People in St.Kitts-Nevis are already accustomed to seeing styles like bobs and long weaves so I wanted when that my girls modelled my hairstyles that they did so with a difference and give a great impression that the onlookers can say ‘wow that looks good’. Hair shows are all about big styles, creativity and fresh ideas like with the use of colours. I have love for the hair business. I love you people! Thanks for supporting the show! Peace out!”

Yihisa ‘Desha’ Williams

“I really enjoy enhancing my business and this show allowed me to showcase my talent in what I can do and to be creative about it. I think that even in the longer run, it will be much better. I am very thankful for the first time for the turnout of people and just everything about this experience.”

In replying to a question about her styles chosen, she said: “I did a lot of freestyle; I just went with the flow.”

Dr.  Denzil L. Douglas (Leader of the opposition St.Kitts-Nevis Labour Party)

“It was an excellent show. Every day I am amazed at the quality of the talent that we have among our young people in this country and even though so often in the social media and in the local media, we hear so much negative somehow we are not showcasing the immense talent of young people, especially the ladies who are in the fashion development. I believe shows like this should be annual and should receive the support of the authorities.”

He added: “I pledge that my Party’s organisation will support activities of this kind. There is need for us to get our young people more engaged into activities of this kind so that they can showcase their talent, their skill and this will provide an extra avenue for our young people to become engaged in rather than allowing their time to be wasted in anti-social activities and behavior.”

Dr. Douglas has encouraged the organisers to make it an annual one.

“I want to commend the organisers. I understand that this is the first of its kind and it is intended to be annual. I am willing to give my support to this show if it is an annual event and that it be continuous and not just simply a onetime activity.”
