Family Loses Everything In House Fire, Seeking Help From Public

By: Drizel Hanley

Basseterre, St. Kitts– A Challengers family who lost everything in after a house fire on Saturday 11th November is looking to the public for help in an effort to pick up the pieces of their lives.

Ms. Denise Murray, who lived with her mother and her three children, has made a call to the general public for assistance.

She told this media house that she is currently unemployed and is available for hire.

The distressed mother further revealed that she is seeking food and clothing for her three children- one eight year old girl, one five year old boy and a one year old girl.

She further revealed that on the day of the fire she was lying in bed with her one year old daughter when she smelled smoke.

“I was putting my daughter to sleep and I smelled smoke, when I looked around the roof and piece of the bed was on fire”, she said.

“My 5-year old light a match under the bed and started the fire”, the mother further explained, adding that she then ran outside calling her mother who had went to do some laundry.

She said she then ran down the road where her father resided and called to him for help as well. When her father got to the scene he told her that there is nothing that he can do because the house was already engulfed by the flames.

Murray went on to say that her father advised her to call the Fire and Rescue Services and although response came, the family’s home could not be saved.

“It burn flat to the ground”, the teary eyed mother said.

When asked about the aid she had received thus far she said “people helping me out with food and clothes”.

She said that a police officer, Lauston Percival- who is widely known for his Operation Future efforts- has been quite helpful.

As understood, he heard about her ordeal and decided to ask his peers for help via a WhatsApp voice note which has since then gone viral.

Since then, persons have started to donate to the family.

To this end, Murray is saying a heartfelt thank you and is asking for continued donations.

Individuals who wish to contribute to the family’s cause are asked to drop off items at the nearest police station.
