Basseterre, St. Kitts (Friday 13th April 2018): Dr. Marcus Natta of the Natta Memorial Foundation is encouraging persons to support the third Annual Scholarship Fund-raiser takes place tomorrow, Saturday, 14th April.

The praise-worthy event will have as its featured speaker former Ms. Universe and lawyer Wendy Fitzwilliams.

Dr. Natta said that scholarship fund started with family and close friends giving donations but indicated the need to expand the fund in an effort to assist more students.

“What we are trying to do is empower young people. We started with close family and friends giving donations, but our goal and our vision is really to assist all primary schools on St. Kitts and on Nevis. So, we embarked on a public fund-easing effort, and this is just one of the avenues that we are looking at,” Natta explained.

The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to the memory of William Marcus Natta, former army sergeant and accounts clerk.

The Scholarship Fund provides financial and educational assistance to students from low-income families who display academic excellence, exhibit sound moral character, and a strong sense of community service.

The founding committee pioneered the Scholarship Fund at Tucker-Clarke Primary School (2010) and extended the scholarship to students of the Irishtown Primary School in 2016.

The Board of Trustees hopes to expand the Scholarship Fund to other primary schools on St. Kitts and Nevis as the Scholarship Fund grows.

The William Marcus Natta Memorial Scholarship Fund awards a total of two scholarships each academic year to two student recipients, one male and one female, selected from grades five (5) or six (6), in each eligible school. Scholarship awards range from EC $500 to EC $2,000.
