“What luck for rulers that men do not think.” – Adolf Hitler

Some years ago, when a certain gentleman wrote a weekly column in this newspaper, he often times warned the people of St. Kitts and Nevis that PAM had no real use for us. He knew and shared with us the history of that organisation, and warned us, on a number of occasions, that they treated us all with the three Ds, namely disrespect, deceit and disdain.
As it has turned out those characteristics are not only true of SCHEME UNITY, but, under their regime, the mal-effects are having an even more pronounced effect on our people, our country and our affairs.

On Tuesday parliament was in session, and what a national embarrassment it was. For all those who have ears with which to hear, and eyes with which to see, by now it should have become abundantly clear that many of those now in government care nothing for rules, propriety or good sense, their concept of which is that once any utterance or action suits their purposes “to hell with all those who do not like it”.

It very soon became quite obvious that the session had been called for the sole purpose of attacking our beloved Party Leader, Comrade Dr. The Rt. Hon Denzil Llewellyn Douglas, on the basis of their highly spurious accusations that he has sworn allegiance to some other country, knowing full well that nothing could be further from the truth.

And, even if there had been any truth to their accusations, they know full well that parliament is not the place for dealing with such a matter. They know that it should be placed before the courts for a ruling. So, why then did they subject the nation to such a charade? Because it is all a part of who and what they are! Disrespect, deceit and disdain are deeply ingrained characteristics of theirs.

Apart from their personal aggrandisement (increase in wealth, status and power), they have absolutely nothing whatsoever to show for their time in office. As has been pointed out time and again by our Comrade Dr. Terrence Drew, even their own supporters have been pleading with them to say what they are doing for the people. Since they are really doing nothing for the country, it would be a waste of time to expect and wait for them to make any such report.

Thus, for them to even attempt to do so, would be yet another case of treating us with disrespect, deceit and disdain. Quite frankly the nation CANNOT take any more of their mamaguy. Common decency disallows the use of a much stronger and far more appropriate expression.

By way of statements from the ministers, Tuesday’s sitting would have been a good opportunity to make reports and inform the public about what they have been doing, for that is the main purpose of those items on the agenda. Instead it turned out to have been just another display of their intellectual and political dishonesty, a virtual mock ritual, designed and executed for the express purpose of sanitising their own misdeeds, which are now legendary, both in number and in scope, and their most shocking betrayal of the public trust.

In the manner which is so typical of them, they spent hour after hour, spewing endless amounts of drivel, and unending streams of flat out lies interspersed with rather lame half-truths. The entire episode was most shameful, to say the very least.

Comrade Drew has also invited our people to refer to the manifesto put out by SCHEME UNITY for the 2015 general elections campaign. Doing so will prove to be quite an eye-opener for all those who succumbed to the emptiness of their promises.

For example, all those who were encouraged to not make their mortgage payments on their NHC houses, with the promise that the so-called team Unity would waive them once they got into government, are now shedding tears, copiously, and wringing their hands in utter distress, as, for some time now, they have been faced with the reality that nothing could have been further from the truth. The same experience holds good for those with SKELEC and other kinds of bills.

UNITIM should have warned them that ‘a promise is a comfort to a fool’, but, assuredly, such honesty is completely alien to their nature.

Our Party Chairperson, Comrade Marcella Liburd, recently made us aware of yet another series of malpractices being perpetrated by SCHEME UNITY and some of their lackeys. She brought to our (the public’s) attention the sordid practice of using public funds with which to reward those who carry out their political biddings. In other words, it worse than if we have plaited cattle-skin whips (hunters) with which to have our backs and behinds lashed, and unceasingly at that.

As she asked we repeat: “is that what the people voted for?”
Another practice which she made us aware of is that of having junior members of the services undermining their bosses, disobeying them, being outrageously ill-disciplined, ignoring their orders and instructions, and by spying and ‘carrying news’ to UNITIM. That comes as NO surprise to those who really know the persons involved. It is WHO they, WHAT they are, and HOW they are. In other words, they are quite simply just being TRUE TO THEMSELVES.

It should therefore come as no surprise at all, to anyone, that discipline and morale have all but disappeared from the services. As it is with so much else in the country, the institutions are all being broken down, in some cases destroyed, in order to satisfy the unmitigated greed and unbridled lust of the few.

Our chairperson has also brought to our attention the fact that some person (or persons) may have been given full access to personal information of those who are obligated to The NHC, with the all too obvious intention of having those individuals pressured into buying insurance from a single entity, thus depriving them of their free will and rights to seek out and obtain the insurance coverage most suited to their needs and ability to pay.

This is yet another distressing development, coming as it does hard on the heels of the recent disclosure of a certain individual having been given open access to private and confidential information of numerous contributors to Social Security. Is there going to be NO end to these criminal activities by persons in government?

Where this new ‘development’ is concerned we also wonder if any minister of the crown has any interest (direct or indirect) in the matter of compelling the NHC home owners to purchase insurance from the singular entity?

She also made us aware of the fact that small business owners are having a very rough and bleak time. Money is just not circulating, and most of them are unable even to travel to obtain the goods which they customarily offer for sale. Could this be part of a devilish scheme to push small entrepreneurs out of business and at the same time strengthen the hands of the ‘biggies’? Let us all hope and pray that such is not the case.

We of this newspaper are of the view that our people did not want what the SCHEME UNITY government is now dishing out to our people. Under the leadership of Comrade Douglas, Labour and The NRP, St Kitts and Nevis was doing quite well. Many did not appreciate those facts. It is only those who are now in office who preached otherwise, all for selfish and greedy reasons. With very few exceptions we are now having a very rough time of it. Most certainly it is not what we voted for.

Nations usually find themselves in our situation when the people cease to think. It is then that the words of Adolph Hitler become relevant, and we know what the end results are, always. This should tell us that if we are to rid ourselves of our incumbent rulers and what they are doing to us, then we MUST once again become a thinking people who abhor tyrants and tyranny. Should we fail to do so they will forever be to deceive us, and treat us with disrespect and disdain.
