The original wooden building gave way to the stone structure in 1856 (161 years ago); should the Anglicans abandon their church because the building is too old? The Methodist Church at Seaton Street Basseterre, was constructed in 1822 (195 years, five more years and it will be celebrating its 200th Anniversary) The Manse where the Minister lives was erected nine years later in 1831 (186 years), should the Methodist congregation cease to worship at the church because it is too old and should the Methodist Minister refuse to live in the Manse because it is too historical a structure and wend his way over to the Marriott, thereby forcing his congregation to foot the bill? Must we close down the University of the West Indies in Mona Jamaica, because it was built in 1948 (69 years), deeming it too old to be used as an institution of learning and build a new one? Who will foot the bill and where would the future scholars of the University be housed until such time? Please to tell me?

Dear reader, I have presented all these historical facts to dispute the stupid and foolish and inaccurate arguments bandied about by the force ripe representatives we have at the helm of our Ship of State, to show them up as being infantile. Running a country is no toy which children play with. It is serious business which must be handled by seriously minded and mature individuals as it affects not only the lives of the inhabitants of today’s age, but generations yet unborn. Why do we as adults, have these little children (for this is exactly who they are) messing up and mucking up the lives of our present generation? WHY?

They, in their immaturity are attempting to hoodwink us the older folks who have seen many moons before them but whom we mistakenly placed confidence in to  run our affairs, that we need to shoulder the debt of building a brand new state of the art Basseterre High School when nothing is totally wrong with the present one? They are now in Office from February 16th, 2015, two full years and a few months and up and until this time, they haven’t presented a budget or a drawing to indicate that they are seriously planning to build a new High School. All that they have succeeded in doing so far is to indicate to us that they are hell bent with intent to poison the aquifer to kill off the residents of East Basseterre and all our visitors who come to stay at the Tourist Facilities in East Basseterre and the South East Peninsular.

I am a proud New Towner; Leroy Ponteen and I founded the first ever Football Club in the area; this Club is what has bought recognition to the New Town Community. As a proud New Towner, I respect the present Representative for East Basseterre who is also a New Town man, but my love for New Town and all things New Town, pales into insignificance in comparison to the LOVE I bear for my Country and its people! You see dear reader, I have to look at the broader picture; while I am a product of New Town, I am a child of St. Kitts and the Universe and a citizen of the Federation and the world.

I therefore have to seek what is in the best interest of my country and the East Basseterre Constituency. Erecting a School with over 1000 students and teachers on the Aquifer, is bad for my constituents and the country and, on Principle, I have to oppose it. I must never be fearful of calling sin by its right name and I am prepared to stand for the right, though the heavens fall. No right thinking person who really LOVES his/her country, will stand idly by and allow this CALAMITY to befall it!
