PRESS RELEASE: Miss World 1993 Guest Speaker Douglas’ New Year’s Gala

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (JANUARY 2018) – Miss World 1993 and Member of Parliament (MP) in Jamaica, Hon. Lisa Hanna, is the guest speaker at the 18th New Year’s Gala, hosted by the Right Hon. Dr. Denzil L. Douglas, the distinguished Leader of the Opposition and of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP). Hanna also acted in the romantic comedy How Stella Got Her Groove Back.

The annual event takes place this coming Friday 5th January 2018 in the Grand Ballroom of the posh St. Kitts Marriott Resort at Frigate Bay. The Gala begins at 6:30 pm.

Miss Hanna is also Miss Jamaica World 1993 and Miss World Caribbean.

Lisa Rene Hanna, born August 20, 1975, was crowned Miss World in 1993 at the age of 18. She is the third Jamaican to proudly wear the title Miss World. Along with the crown, she walked away with five of the eight sectional prizes that year. She was the overwhelming crowd favourite who dazzled the crowd with her breathtaking beauty, brilliant intelligence, and winning smile.

A member of the opposition People’s National Party (PNP), Hanna currently serves as Member of Parliament for Saint Ann South East, and was Jamaica’s Minister of Youth and Culture from 2012 to 2016.

Hanna was among the panel of judges for the Miss World finals in China in December 2015.

In December 2017 she married her long time beau, businessman Richard Lake.
