She continued: “So she (Phipps-Heyliger) said to me ‘well you know you will have to go and sit in class with her because you promised her’ and so I went and whenever I can I made some donations to Dieppe Bay Primary. The kids there are fantastic. I adopted the school about 8 or 9 years ago so whenever I can I try to give back and donate.”

Brooks also talked about a foundation called Caribbean All-star Students whereby essay competitions are run throughout the Caribbean region.

“The best four pieces are selected for primary and secondary students. The first set of students that won our essay competition, we got them US Visas and helped with their passports with all-expense paid trip to New York. The first set of students were right here from St.Kitts; four different schools who won the essay competition.”

Brooks talked about what giving back means to her saying, “For me this is the highlight of everything I do.  I love education…It means so much to me and giving back especially to students who are my passion, my joy and my heart. This is something that will always do and Dieppe Bay Primary School will always be a part of that giving back process here in St.Kitts.”

Brooks’ long time Phipps-Heyliger, who lives just a short distance away from the school said Dieppe Bay is a unique community.

She described herself as one who also loves children and education. As understood, she is passionate about seeing children excel in education, particularly in instances where it is evident that less fortunate families can be beneficiaries of such.

She thanked her friend for sharing such a passion having readily agreed to positively impact the lives of students and the learning environment in general.

A second donation to the school is expected to take place later this year in September when the new school term begins.
