Recently, the premier of Nevis took part in an interview with The Government Information Service, a ‘federal’ entity, during the course of which he spoke of how very much he loves what is going on in parliament now, and how very much it pleases him. He sees it all as a great ‘improvement’. The matter is recorded and has been replayed over ZIZ TV. Need we say more?
As if to rub salt and pepper into our wounds, we have been further exposed to the utter garbage about ‘separation of powers’, which was spewed quite recently at an international gathering, albeit here at home. How much more embarrassment will we allow ourselves to be subjected to?
At the level of the executive, the conduct of our nation’s affairs is likewise a matter for grave public concern. This week, 11 to 17 June, 2017 has to be recorded as one of the worst in history of young nation.
On Tuesday, there took place at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, the nation’s premier health facility, an open shoot-up of the place by an unmasked gunman. Doctors, nurses, patients, other workers and visitors alike, had to flee for their lives. Some persons were so terrified that they fainted away on the spot. Where are we heading?
At various other times there were other shootings which took place in Keys, Old Road, Tabernacle and other places. Can this really be St. Kitts, once known as one of the quietest, peaceful and law abiding places that anyone could imagine?
Today, our country is under the governance of a group who, while in opposition, accused the Labour administration, led by Dr. Denzil Douglas, of doing nothing to curb crime. They proclaimed that they had all of the answers, endlessly numbered plans, and the resolve to put an end to wanton killings and other crimes, all of which they further accused Dr. Douglas and his administration of being responsible for.
Now that they are in office, matters have become infinitely worse, this week being but a ‘snap shot’ of just how bad and completely out-of-control matters have become under them.
Running true to form they have been gallivanting all over the place, stuffing their accounts and their pockets with funds, indulging in the modern day version of ‘Nero fiddling while Rome burned’, and, just as Nero fixed the blame on the Christians for the fire which he himself had started, so too are some of them attempting to fix the blame on Labour and Dr. Douglas for behaviours which several of them encouraged as they sought to destabilise the country.
For example, when a politician gets up on a platform and, making reference to the Chief of Police, tells a group of young men in his following that he was not telling them what to do, but that he was sure they knew what to do, and that they should go ahead and do it, such a person directly incited criminal behaviour, and, no matter how they attempt to assign the blame to Dr. Douglas and Labour, it just will not wash.
That is but one, and only one, example of how several of those now in government used young criminals to do their dirty work for them. But, as we have warned them on numerous occasions, what goes around comes around, and the coming around is usually far worse than the going around.
People of St. Kitts and Nevis, our democracy is under threat, and the threat is dire. Every one of us needs to be fully aware, and we need to be ready to defend it. We also need to be ready to do whatever is best for our country, not only for ourselves, but also for the generations as yet unborn.
