Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 07, 2019 (SKNIS): Sixty-five (65) outstanding businesses and fifty-five (55) employees
within various organizations in St. Kitts and Nevis were honoured by the
Ministry of Labour on Tuesday, May 07, for the hard work and best practices
they have demonstrated over the years in Occupational Safety and Health (OSH).
The Honourable Vance Amory, Senior Minister and Minister of Labour,
congratulated the honourees, noting that he is pleased to “recognize and
celebrate the contributions of individuals and companies toward workplace
safety and health excellence”.
“The OSH awards shine the spotlight on the safety and health achievements of
today’s recipients. It is important to recognize the efforts of workplace that
make safety and health a priority,” said the senior minister. “As the Minister
of Labour, I am indeed honoured to recognize your dedication to workers’
well-being, and to creating and maintaining safe and healthy workplaces.”
Senior Minister Amory said that the government continues to play its part in
ensuring that businesses provide a safe place for people to work.
“These awards support government’s vision of ensuring a favourable environment
for economic growth and productivity for competent and a competitive
workplace,” said the Minister of Labour. “Fundamental to economic progress is
having good Occupational Safety and Health standards and practices. So, this
award ceremony signifies government’s continued commitment towards good OSH
standards.”
Minister Amory noted that the OSH awards is a new initiative of the Ministry of
Labour, where awards will be presented to businesses, organizations and
individuals that lead the way in “preventing accidents and ensuring that
workers and workplaces are kept safe and healthy”.
“By recognition of you our awardees, it signals that there is strong
leadership, commitment and support for workplace safety and health and that you
foster a safety-first culture at work,” he said, while honouring workers as
well. “Not only do we recognize and celebrate all these businesses, but we also
salute the workers who help make workplaces safe. The award also recognizes
that your workers have taken responsibility and must continue to take
responsibility to create a safe workplace environment.”
