BASSETERRE, St.Kitts (Thursday 30th November 2017)-  Yesterday (Wednesday)The St. Kitts- Nevis Association of Persons with Disabilities held its second annual ‘Walk In My Shoes’ march throughout the streets of Basseterre.

Association President Anthony Mills, who uses a wheelchair, during an interview with this media house gave the reasoning behind the event.

“The idea is get people from the general public to agree to be blind folded, use a wheel chair or use ear plugs at least for the duration of the march to see how it feels to have certain disabilities and then we ask them to share their experiences at the end of it.”

President Anthony Mills (Spokesman Sap)

Commenting on how effective such a march is with the objective it holds, he replied: “We hope it would be a good experience that people would see us and at least ask questions so that they could kind of learn what’s going on. It would have been more effective if we had, like last year, parliamentarians from both sides because that would kind of put the message out there and people would be more inclined to at least find out what’s going on and then we’ll be able to raise some sort of awareness but hopefully our little march here would cause people to ask questions and would at least start a national conversation.”

Come next year, Mills is hoping that the association “can start preparations earlier and we could get a more favourable response.”

The march, which ended at the Independence Square, kicked off from the west line bus terminal and included the routes- the Bay Road, Fort Street, Cayon Street and Church Street.
